Marvelous Mommies Is Born
Its 11 o’clock and today, like every day, Brenda dials the phone to call Kelly. Brenda, the “at work” mom of three, and Kelly, an “at home” mom of one, are on the same feeding schedule. They have been, more or less, since the birth of Kelly’s son.
Every day, they call each other to talk, to laugh and to get support. When Brenda went through postpartum, Kelly was there. When Kelly’s son was hospitalized and she was at his side, Brenda thought of her every day at their usual talking time.
Between the two of them, they’d experienced just about everything from infertility to the joys and difficulties of those first few days at home with a newborn.
“And I still can’t believe that this experience, this thing that utterly changes the whole of a woman’s life, is no where to be found in any greeting card store,” says Brenda.
That’s why she and Kelly founded Marvelous Mommies Cards.
“The whole process of having a child, everything that surrounds it, is one of the biggest, most life-changing experiences in a woman’s life, but after the baby shower and arrival cards, you’re done. No support for the mom who hasn’t slept through the night. No jokes. No ‘cheer me up’. That’s when I realized there was a huge hole in the greeting card market,” said Brenda.
Kelly was surprised when Brenda told her about her idea to create a line of cards for moms. “When we first talked about creating our own card line, it really felt like an outlet for all the jokes we shared about being new moms and our kids. I was surprised that no one had done it before,” but that surprise didn’t last long.
“Our cards speak directly to mom’s that are standing beside cribs, feeding their babies, changing diapers and going for walks” explains Kelly. “They have experiences that they’d love to share, and our line of greeting cards is all about that experience.”
